How can I decline job offer without burning bridges?

I was offered a job that I really want. The problem is that the timing is wrong. They want me to travel for training and I have a baby and cant leave for so long. I would like to decline the offer but be reconsidered in a few months OR be put in the next training cl. How does this work usually? If you have done this before or work in HR, please let me know the policy!
