What Camera is Better? Nikon, or Canon? Please CHECK THIS OUT!!?

I have been looking for a GREAT QUALITY camera for a long time. I've tried kodak, and I've tried sony the casio's. I have even tried using my cell phone how desperate I got.. My cell phone is the Samsung Behold by T-Mobile. Which photos turn out not so great! Anyway I've been wanting to invest in a good quality camera most I would spend is 400. Or 500 which would be really pricy for me. I however am looking for an amazing quality camera that has the quality a Nikon D60 camera or a professional camera like that. Within a Small Size and A Cheap Price? Do you think the Canon Powershot SD60 IS is a good camera? or would you say a nikon, sony or another brand would be better. I also want this camera to take good videos!! But my main focus is deffinitley the pictures I really have been wanting to take professional looking pictures without having to lug around a BIG camera.
